The initial feedback from an anonymous source says that the news is not positive on this machine. Very disappointing. It sounds like Honda may have a lot of refining to do. We'll see soon, the mags will have the reviews in next months issues.

Engine and suspension issues. The most disappointing to me was the info regarding the engine. It doesn't sound like it's going to be a good woods/trail machine, that you really have to wind it out to get the power out of it. Apparently the engine is "sluggish" and the machine was not that impressive. Not the news that I wanted to hear.

Please explain more if you can.  Details please...  I am getting mine Mid-April and I am curious.  What kind of problems with the Suspension?  What is your Source?  Thanks for anything you have.

Thanks

Apparently the engine stalled easily in the woods and you can't bog it down like moswt big-bore 4 strokes. The words I got were "unimpressive" (overall), "doggish" engine, and the suspension wasn't that good. Aparently those who tested it were not that impressed with it. Sounds like it wouldn't come close to competing woth an Outlaw 525. My source is very reliable, that's all I'll say. There should be published reviews out next month, hopefully sooner on some websites.

Well that doesn't sound good.  I hope that I find out before mine comes in.  I was debating between the Outlaw 525 IRS and the 700xx.  It sounds a little odd that the Motor is what you say it is as that is usually Honda's strong point.  As for the suspension... Hopefully it was a bunch of SRA riders that said they did not like it as thay will bash anything with IRS.

Any more details would be great and keep me posted.

I suppose you can't tell us your source.

Thanks again for the info

Well I had a deposit down on mine and it is supposed to be here next Tuesday. I've had my mind made up for months, so this was a major bomb for me. I went and rode an Outlaw 525 (just up and down the street) this weekend. I'll say this, that motor is friggin' awesome, it has massive power and pulls HARD all the way thru the gears. I personally like the look of the XX much better, and I was hoping that the XX would be a torque monster as well. It seems maybe that the motor in the XX may be better in the wide open where you can wind it out. But I really don't know, I just have to trust what I heard. Now I don't know what to do, but I'm leaning towards the Outlaw 525.

I highly doubt that motor isn't a torque monster... It is very similar to the XR650 engine and that thing is a torque monster. The only complaint I could imagine anyone giving about the 700xx is the weight issue... But I guess we will all have to see when the real reviews come out.

Thanks for the info though, keep us updated as you find out.

Apparently first gear is really tall, the engine has a light flywheel and stalls easily. Sounds like a bad combo for trail riding.

Well if that is true, a simple sprocket change should fix the gearing which I think Honda would do from the factory if they have any complaints about it. But I guess we will all have to see.

I agree on the sproket change, that is what I thought as well. Speaking of that, I wonder how hard it will be to swap sprokets on this thing being that it has a centered drive? Supposedly the machines that these guys rode were production units, so that's what you're gonna get. I'm not trying to start a shit storm here, I'm just letting people know what is being said. Seems odd to me that Honda wouldn't put out test units to the press before this thing is released. People are going to buy them before one thing is written about them and before anyone really knows anything about their true performance. I hope that what I have heard is biased or exaggerated, because I am really disappointed in what I have heard.

xx-rated...sounds like you and I are in the same issue.  I also made up my mind a few months ago to go with the 700xx over the Outlaw...and I also have put my money down on a 700xx that is suppose to ship on April 11th.  Now I am concerned it I made the correct choice also.  What is your source??  I only put $200 down  and if it ends up being as bad as you say then the $200 is not much to me.  The thing I did not like about the outlaw was the rim issue and the money you need to put into it out of the box to get it running correctly and also the Polaris factor.

More feedback if you have any thanks, and keep me posted on what else you here or what you end up doing.

Thanks

Well I put down $300 on mine. I haven't decided which way I will go yet. I did tell my dealer that I was going to wait for a month, so that probably means that my black/silver XX will get sold to someone else. But I'm not going to buy it until some real info gets released in the magazines. Although some of them can be biased at times as well. I don't think that a dealer can legally keep your deposit if you change your mind. As far as the rim issue on the Outlaw, I don't think there is much to that, my friend has a 500 and he has had zero issues (with his rims) in the 2 years since he bought it. Also, what do you think that you need to do to get the 525 to running "correctly"? The only thing that I have read is that they tend to run lean and you need to put a JD jet kit in it which may set you back $80 bucks. I agree on the Polaris factor in that I trust a Honda much more, but if you search for reviews on the Outlaw 525 and even long term reviews, the units built post 1/07 have proven to be very reliable. They certainly dont have the fit and finish of the XX. Go ride a 525, I think you'll be impressed. The other factor for me is that I can get an Outlaw for $6,850. That said, I'm still holding out hope for the XX. And as far as my source, all I can say is that he is in the industry, but he has not ridden the machine himself yet.

;)Guys, you're getting ahead of yourself. Relax and be patient for a little longer. Also, be realistic in your expectatians, the 700XX is going to be a great quad, not a new Wonder of the World. I suspect there will be no "snappier" motor than the 510cc KTM motor used in the Outlaw, but, and I'm speaking from experience, the Outlaw is a high maintenance atv without the years of development and research that went into the 700XX. You are free to choose - it's your money - but the 700XX is the mature and obvious choice for me!
