Okay, lets settle this
« on: November 14, 2007, 08:19:46 AM »
The Honda TRX700XX is not out yet, so many of things people are saying about it are void because nobody has even ridden one.

Now, just by going by the specs and appearance, it is not designed to compete with the Raptor. Why?

1. It has IRS, the Raptor has an SRA, IRS is designed more for trail use (smoother ride)
2. It is a bit heavier (estimated at about 50lbs heavier, dry that is)
3. Huge fender guards, why? For mud/trails.

The 700xx is more of a Outlaw type quad, made to compete with the IRS, Manual, big bore sport quads.

In a drag race, we don't know who will win, might be the Raptor might be the 700xx, but it doesn't matter because drag racing on stock quads is boring and pointless.

Thank You

PS, nice site you got here  :)

Dude, Boring and pointless? Drag racing? Even dead stock, that's one of the biggest throwdowns between competing manufacturers and buddies since, well  since forever, and in all different types of motorsports. Braggin rights- quickest quad is a big title to hold, and I hope the 700xx manages to outrun a Raptor!   ;D
Aside from that, I think it's a natural comparison because of the displacement and Sport designation.

I think he means the drag racing itself isn't really fun on stock quads.

It may be bragging rights, but that still doesn't change the fact that drag racing stock quads is boring... And pointless. Racing a track is another story.

Ok, well I'll continue to have fun having the odd race and ya'll can avoid drag racing stock quads. If it's boring to YOU, that's cool with me. Any seat time on most quads is a good time for me. Love track racing too, modified or stock. Can't wait to get aboard a 700xx and line up against my buddy on his Raptor. When it happens I'll be sure to bore you with the details!!

I think what the guys here are trying to say is that drag racing itself, as an activity, is not as fun as other types of racing/riding. I am pretty sure everyone here has drag raced someone before, to prove who is faster, everyone does this. The race itself isn't "fun" in my opinion, but it is the "title" that is what everyone goes for. Everyone wants the faster quad ofcourse, but when it comes down to riding/racing top speed doesn't mean much, it is all about handling/comfort and other things.

We'll say that in their OPINION it's not fun. I love it. It's a rush and one of the best things you can do. That's MY opinion. Of course a big heavy slow 4x4 isn't as exciting but there's a lot of fast quads out there (even stock) and good acceleration is a result of good engine power. Draggin is a quick way to check em out.  8)
Peace! ;D

I'm rather excited that there are some big differences between the two. And for trail riding bonuses that is all the better for me since I don't like to race race. Going fast is great but I just love to go and all. Maybe that is just cause I'm pretty new to quading though. Then again watching how my brother races dirt bikes I'm not interested in spending that much time in the hospital anyways and if I broke my leg as bad as he did I couldn't paint anymore.

Most people are just like you and that is who this quad is targeted towards, it is NOT a race bike!

Also aren't most race quads heavily modified from stock in the first place? I use to watch rally racing a lot and most of those cars are built from scratch for those races.

Well it matters what race series, MX for example, the quads have nothing factory left on them, but Baja racing quads have very little work done because they need to preserve the reliability factor.

The TRX700xx is not made to compete with the Raptor. Its not made to compete with anything. Its is a quad of its own. Honda calls it king of the hill. It was made to be an all around bike. Made to do everything. They added IRS for more clearance, lighter weight, more travel. There direct market was for people that owned 4x4 quads that want to have more power and wanted to cross over to the sport atv market. The only down side to this IRS for sport riders is it is hard to slide the rearend. For me this really isnt a down side. All and all in my opinion if it was to compete with the raptor the 700xx does blow it away. Also the weight issuse is a joke. The raptor was weighed dry and the TRX was weighed with oils, gas, etc. But if its a probley jenny craig has a plan for you. Just my 2 cents I have seen them and seen the tech updates but have not ridden one myself  8)
